Medicine delivery flight in Papua

Medicine delivery flight in Papua from Matt Dearden on Vimeo.

Here’s another typically short flight we do out here in Papua, delivering medicine from the mountain town of Ilaga to the tiny village of Agadugume. The Pilatus PC-6 Turbo Porter performs these kinds of missions with ease, despite the high altitudes involved and heavy loads we’re required to fly.

  1. Very nice, again!
    Thanks for sharing.
As you stated in previous post, it seemed like forever until take off (comparing to other footage of yours), a 737 came to mind hahaha.
Btw, this is my first comment (and I’ve read all your blog during summer vacations!) and I want to say three things:
    1. Don’t film angry wild people with primeval weapons (not that if he was holding a gun would be wise…)
    2. Thank you for your blog! I really love it! I love your kind of flying, and you make me hate even more me sw-dev job…
    3. I am now 35, i need about a year to migrate from my homeland, arround 3 more for my cpl etc, so in 4-5 years (in my early 40’s) hold a seat there form me hahaha
    Thanks again!

  2. Wow Amazing…you’re a brave pilot. Papua is most dangerous place to fly in Indonesia, please explore more about flying in Papua and other spot in Indonesia

    1. Thanks. I find the days where I’m flying about in cloud don’t really offer much in the way of interesting video footage so hence all my movies are in nice weather :o)

  3. Hi Matt,

I’ve just started following your blog and its just great. Way to go!

    Regards from Barcelona, Spain.

PD: As ill be starting solo flights very soon, id like to buy a type of camera to film everything everwhere i go. Are u using go pro? In that case, which model is it?

    1. Thanks! I’ve been using the original mk 1 GoPro HD for all my videos for the last three years. The standard suction mount works very well on the wing strut.

  4. Hello Matt,

It’s taking me awhile to get through your blog. Trying to catch up. It’s really fascinating!

Question: what is the acoustic guitar piece of music at the beginning of the video? It’s beautiful. Thanks!

    1. Thanks and glad you’re enjoying the blog.

The music would be one of the tracks by Rodrigo y Gabriela. The track name should be in the Vimeo link; I would look it up myself but my internet is so poor here in Nabire I can’t get the page to load!

      Cheers
